Language Arts with Ms Stalter

Learning Target:
Think about your future.

Ms Stalter's writing prompts:
What do you want to do for a career?
What kind of work do you want to do?
How much money do you want to make?
What lifestyle do you want to live?
Where do you want to live?
Do you want to have a family and or children?
And what are you willing to do to get that career?
And how will these factors affect your career choices.

I want to be a writer when I grow up.
I write every day. I doodle cartoons too.
Right now, for practice, I am writing a reference based on what my teachers are teaching me.
I am going to call it, "How to Survive Fifth Grade." or "What I learned in School" +39
I haven't decided exactly what to call it yet.

Personal journal 9/11/15

Each day our teachers are required to post the learning target of each lesson on the board. We are supposed to write the learning target on the back of each page followed by the teachers board notes.
The details from their lectures are optional.

This helps me get straight A's.
Writing what I am learning helps me get through my classes, and sharpens my intellect.  But what I really want to be when I grow up is a science fiction writer.

Science Class 12:25 PM
Mr. François Gonzalez
"My name is Mr Gonzalez. Since our school of three hundred students is very small I will be teaching two classes here,  both gym and science."

I raised my hand at that point and Mr Gonzalez looked at me and said that we could ask questions after he was done with his lecture. "But Mr G, Principal Ho said in our opening day assembly, that there are "only 313 children in our school."

Mr Gonzalez then told me to stand in the hallway. I then told him that wasn't fair. I was simply stating a fact. Mr Gonzalez then said that I would be walking laps during recess.

I told him that wasn't fair either.

He said to me, "Billy, this conversation is not fair to the other students. I believe that there is no reason any student need to be told more than once my expectations of them. The rules are posted on the wall."

"Well Mr Gonzalez, what should we expect from you. Can we have expectations of you. Can we be sure that ..."

Mr Gonzalez cut me off and said, "Billy, this is a science lab, there are things in this lab that could hurt you if you do not follow my instructions about safety we could have accidents. Your attention to detail is admirable, and hopefully shows that you will remember the safety instructions I've given you as well as you remember the number 313. You are now going to be walking two laps and if you speak up again, I will call your parents and the office."
I then blurted out, "I only have a Dad."
He responded by saying, "Okay, and..."
"You said parents Mr Gonzalez. You used the plural"
Mr Gonzalez then took his cell phone out of his pocket and dialed the office. He then told the secretary, Mr Johnson, that I will be reporting to the office tomorrow at recess. after I walk my laps."
I didn't really say those things, I like school and don't want to get into trouble, but when he said that we only had 300 students, I did want to correct him. I'll just use Mrs Ho's quote for my reference.

In reality he then plugged his phone into an audio cable, and said over the class intercom,
"I am both the  gym teacher and the science teacher. I love science and sports, which makes me a smart jock."

Martina (Garcia Marvelosa) giggled. Everyone looked at her aghast. But Mr Gonzalez said, "I made a joke and one person got it. I made fun of myself. If you are going to make fun of someone, make it yourself." If you are going to make fun of somebody else, don't. Stop yourself before the words leave your lips."
If you make someone else in this classroom, there will be no warning, there will be immediate consequences.
He then added, "I am going to be very strict, consistent in my strictness and I am going to make my expectations clear, especially when they are not being met. If you are not sure of what my classroom expectations are, check the posters I have posted. Or memorize them as I repeat them  You may get tired of hearing my expectations repeated, then again you might exceed them, and earn my praise instead. You may even  earn my trust. If you earn my trust, and maintain it, you may gain more independence or at least won't hear so much from me. Think about it."

books I read and other reliable sources. I give credit to all my sources. I take notes on what the teachers say. I also verify their statements on the internet. On the facing page I write my own summary based on their presentations.
